FG Plans to Train 38,180 Frontline Health Workers on Nutrition

—

The Federal government wants to teach 38,180 frontline health workers about nutrition to help moms, babies, and young kids be healthier.

Mrs. Ladidi Bako-Aiyegbusi, who works at the Health Ministry, talked about this at a training event in Keffi.

She said they’ll have two big training sessions for national-level trainers on how to help families with good nutrition habits.

This training is on top of what they did in 2023. It’s meant to help trainers understand and teach different ways to feed babies and kids in different communities.

Mrs. Bako-Aiyegbusi hopes that by the end of the training, participants will know about nutrition trends and common problems in Nigeria.

The focus is on Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN), which means helping kids grow well and get enough nutrients.

After the training, the trainers will go to all 36 states and the capital to teach more people.

There will be three levels of training first, state-level trainers will learn, then they’ll teach health workers in hospitals and clinics.

Mrs. Bako-Aiyegbusi says people care about nutrition because it’s not good in Nigeria, and she thinks it’s because many families don’t know how to eat healthy.

The goal is to make sure health workers and volunteers know how to teach others about healthy eating.

The Health Minister, Prof. Muhammad Pate, wants to train even more health workers and open more health centers in the next three years.
