Borno allocates N2.1 billion for settling workers’ benefits

Borno State, has made a decision to distribute a sum of 2.1 billion naira immediately.

This money is earmarked for the purpose of compensating workers for their annual leave entitlements and ensuring that retirees receive the funds they are owed upon concluding their employment.

The decision reflects the state government’s commitment to prioritizing the financial well-being of its workforce, both active employees and those transitioning into retirement.

By disbursing these funds promptly, the state aims to alleviate any financial burdens faced by its workers and retirees, thereby contributing to their overall welfare and stability.

The Head of Service in Borno, Alhaji Mallam Fannami, shared this information on Thursday in Maiduguri.

He said, “Because the workers’ group asked for it and the government was worried about the workers’ difficulties, Governor Babagana Zulum said to release 2.1 billion naira to help with the removal of fuel subsidy.”

The money is supposed to help ease the problems faced by government workers and the families of those who passed away while working for the state.

He explained that out of the 2.1 billion naira, one billion will go towards paying the families of workers who died while still working, 602 million will go to workers as leave grants, and 500 million will go to retired workers who were part of the unified local government service.

Fannami also mentioned that the governor asked the workers to be patient and understand that the government is trying its best to solve their problems with the resources available.

Additionally, Borno has started giving grains to 100,000 households in Maiduguri and nearby areas to help them deal with economic difficulties.
