Amid Kicks By Northern Elders, Again, Tinubu Relocates NUPRC To Lagos

Three years after its headquarters was moved to the nation’s capital, Abuja, reports say the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission has begun the process of returning some departments to Lagos.

Department of Petroleum Resources, as formerly named, the NUPRC oversees the oil and gas industry to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and laws, as well as monitors the safety and other regulations related to the exportation and importation of the products into the country.

Meanwhile, in a memo tagged “Movement to Lagos”, dated February 14, and obtained by newsmen, the relocation is driven by the commission’s desire to cut down on operational costs and to also use its assets in the nation’s commercial capital, Lagos.

The memo reads in parts; “In line with our objectives of improving organizational efficiency, activating industry growth, and managing office accommodation in Abuja, we are ‘exploring the possibility of relocating certain units to Lagos.

“This initiative is driven by the need to enhance our service delivery and reduce operational costs. and make adequate utilization of our assets in Lagos”.

Meantime, heads of departments have been asked to submit a list of units that can perform independently in preparation for the relocation.

It was gathered that about 200 staff members of the organization are expected to be affected by the relocation plan.
