Govt Is Ever Ready To Listen, Tinubu Tells NLC, TUC To Sheath Sword

The federal government has appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, to sheath their swords and see reasons to halt the planned nationwide strike.

This appeal was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, while addressing journalists in Abuja. Idris said it was not in the Federal Government’s interest for the union to keep embarking on strike.

Earlier, the organized Labour had on February 8, issued a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government over the hardship facing Nigerians. In a Reaction, the minister who said the Federal Government will not turn back on the promises made to the workers, added that government would not fail to honor agreements reached with the unions.

“Well, we appeal to labour to always see reason with the government. It is not in the government’s interest for the labour to continue to go on strike. I think the government keeps its promises. If there are other things that they (NLC, TUC) think they are concerned about, I think that they will sit down with the government and the government is ever ready to listen to labour so that we can have an amicable resolution to all these”. He stated.

Idris stated that the government is ready for a continued engagements and conversations around whatever grey areas perceived by the organized labour in some of the agreements that have already been signed.
