Dr. Mohammed Bulama, the Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), recently visited Borno state Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, along with the Corporation’s management.
During the visit, Dr. Bulama expressed the Corporation’s commitment to counter the narrative of violent extremist groups in the North East region by establishing more FM stations.
As an indigene of Borno state, Dr. Bulama emphasized his duty to pay respects to Governor Zulum and pledged to be a positive ambassador for the state during his tenure.
Notably, this visit marked the first courtesy visit by the Director General to any State Chief Executive since his appointment three months ago.
Addressing the issue of underfunding affecting the Corporation’s operations over the years, Dr. Bulama promised to reposition Radio Nigeria to compete with other reputable radio stations worldwide.
He also acknowledged the crucial role of the state government’s support in keeping Radio Nigeria Peace FM Maiduguri operational.
Highlighting the importance of information dissemination in combating insurgency and terrorism, Governor Zulum pledged to collaborate with Radio Nigeria to enhance communication at the grassroots level.
He assured Dr. Bulama of the state government’s support to facilitate effective functioning of the organization, especially considering the challenges faced by Radio Nigeria Peace Maiduguri.
In response to the dire need for radio services in Borno state, Dr. Bulama announced plans to establish an FM station in Gwoza, aiming to cover surrounding local government areas.
He emphasized the Corporation’s dedication to ensuring that Borno state is adequately served by radio services within the next two to three years.
Governor Zulum commended Radio Nigeria Peace Maiduguri for their valuable services to the people of the state despite the challenges they face.
The collaborative efforts between the state government and Radio Nigeria aim to strengthen communication channels and counteract violent extremism in the region.
