Reports have it that a National Diploma II student of the Department of Mass Communication at the Federal Polytechnic Mubi in Adamawa State, Jamima Shetima Balami, has taken her own life after her boyfriend suddenly called off their relationship.
It was gathered that the deceased who was undergoing her Industrial Training (IT) at the Adamawa Television (ATV), Yola prior to her demise, died at her residence in Vinikilang, a community famously known as Hayin Gada in the Girei local government area of Adamawa state.
The 24-year-old, who was the only daughter of her family, was reported to have committed suicide when her boyfriend, allegedly a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University (MAU), demanded that they put an end their relationship.
While confirming the incident to journalists, the state Adamawa state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, stated that the father of the deceased reported the incident to the police.
Nguroje, noted that although the matter was reported to the police in two different versions, ongoing findings would be made public and that the force will make frantic efforts to unravel the real reason behind the decision taken by the deceased.
Nguroje added; “The father of Jamima reported that she committed suicide by taking substances. The other version had it that she visited her boyfriend, a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University (MAU) Yola, and was told to quit the relationship. Angered by the news of exiting her boyfriend, the deceased took poison”.
