2Africa Undersea Cable Nears Completion, Set to Land in Nigeria by February

In a major technological milestone, Facebook’s parent company is on the brink of completing the 45,000 km 2Africa undersea cable, touted as the world’s largest. Anticipated to make landfall in Nigeria by February, the cable is expected to enhance connectivity and digital infrastructure in the region.
During the inauguration of the American Corner in Lekki, Lagos, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken confirmed the impending arrival of the 2Africa undersea cable. This announcement underscores the strategic importance of Nigeria in global digital connectivity.
Blinken praised the undersea cable project as a significant contribution by American companies toward President Bola Tinubu’s ambitious goal of creating one million digital jobs in Nigeria. This aligns with the broader initiative to foster international collaboration for economic development. The undersea cable is slated to land at two key points in Nigeria – Lagos and Kwa Ibo, a river town in the southeast.
This strategic positioning aims to optimize connectivity and bridge digital divides in different regions of the country. Highlighting the growing interest of American entities in Nigeria, Blinken emphasized collaboration in working, investing, and partnering. The focus remains on fostering digital job creation, aligning with the evolving landscape of the global economy.
Despite the positive strides, Blinken acknowledged existing challenges in Nigeria’s business environment.
Engaging in discussions with Nigerian government officials, the talks addressed obstacles to ensure a conducive atmosphere for sustained collaboration and growth.
