Tinubu Departs Abuja For France Amid Growing Security Concerns

Hours after the killing of dozens in Mangu, Plateau state, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 for Paris France, for a private visit that will last for about two weeks.

His departure was disclosed in a statement issued by Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, on Wednesday.

Though the statement did not reveal the reason behind the visit, it however noted that the president will return to the country in the first week of February 2024.

This visit marks the president third visit to the country since he assumed office eight months ago.

Recall that on June 20, 2023, three weeks after assuming office, Tinubu unveiled his foreign schedule in the city he last visited as President-elect, Paris, the French capital.

Earlier, a statement signed by then-Special Adviser, Special Duties, Communication and Strategy, Dele Alake, was cited as saying; “during his four-day stay, the Nigerian leader participated in the Paris Summit for the New Global Financial Pact, to “review and sign a New Global Financial Pact that places vulnerable countries on the priority list for support and investment, following the devastating impact of climate change, energy crisis, and after effect of the COVID-19 pandemic”.

Meanwhile, in September 2023, the President spent nine days with world leaders in New York, USA, at the 78th United Nations General Assembly, which started on September 19, marking his first UNGA as President.

Thereafter, he proceeded to Paris, France, where he stayed for five days before returning to Abuja on September 29 ahead of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day anniversary on the 1st of October.
