INEC collaborates with Borno stakeholders for Chibok by-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken proactive measures to ensure a smooth by-election for the Chibok constituency of Borno State.

Abba Liberty, the Public Affairs Officer of INEC in Borno, in an interview with Newsmen in Maiduguri says the commission is actively engaging various stakeholders for the upcoming state Assembly by-election.

Liberty emphasized that INEC is diligently involving participants in the election process, particularly reaching out to security agencies.

“We have been engaging security agencies, and they have provided assurances of ample security,” Liberty stated.

The Chibok by-election has been necessitated by the unfortunate demise of the initial winner of the 2023 election, the late Nuhu Clerk. INEC is committed to conducting a fair and transparent electoral process to fill the vacant position.

Scheduled for February 3, the by-election features several candidates vying for the Chibok constituency seat.

Notable contenders include Abdullahi Gambo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hamid Zamzam of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), and Lawan Pagu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Additionally, Abdullahi Lawan is representing the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Haruna Shettima for the Action People’s Party (APP), Habila Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Maina Sheriff of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

As part of its comprehensive preparations, INEC is ensuring effective collaboration with all relevant parties to guarantee the success and integrity of the electoral process in Chibok constituency.

The commission’s focus on engaging stakeholders, including security agencies, underscores its commitment to a hitch-free and credible by-election.
