Former Army Spokesman Faults Govt’ Fight Against Continued Insecurity

—

Former Army spokesman Brig. Gen. Sani Usman (rtd) has faulted the Nigerian government’s efforts in the fight against the continued security challenges facing the country.

Speaking to ArisenNews Morning Show on Monday 22 January 2024, Usman faulted the directive by the federal government to dissuade individuals from paying ransom to kidnappers maintaining that the government should have been more concerned about the root causes of crimes and interrogate the rationale behind those engaging in the act of kidnapping across the country.

He disclosed that while there was need to unmask and arrest the sponsors and financiers of these criminals, it was also incumbent on the government to better restructure the Nigeria Police force being the leading agency in internal security, to attend to the needs of nipping kidnappings and other acts of criminality in the bud.

The former Army spokesperson who decried the level at which non state actors and kidnappers walk freely despite government’s assurance that the reform in the telecommunication sector was aimed at identifying and arresting criminals through the NIN linkage to SIM cards, noted that such initiative has failed in that regard.

He emphasized the urgency for the government to make frantic efforts in addressing the economic challenges bedeviling the country adding that the living standard of citizens impacts significantly on the ideology behind insecurity.
