Attack claims the life of a herder in plateau

—

In the Makada community of Bokkos District, Plateau State, a tragic incident unfolded when 32-year-old herder Isma’il Adam fell victim to another targeted killing.

This unfortunate event, as reported by the Fulani coalition groups, took place in the evening on Thursday.

The area has been marred by a series of targeted killings, notably since the Christmas eve attacks that resulted in the loss of over 100 lives in the villages of Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas.

Adding to the grim situation, on a recent Wednesday, unidentified assailants attacked a Toyota boxer in the Butura district of Bokkos, resulting in the death of one herder while two others managed to escape.

Garba Abdullahi, the chairman of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), confirmed the latest incident involving Isma’il Adam.

According to Abdullahi, Isma’il and fellow herders were grazing their cattle when gunmen, in a significant number, stormed the area.

The assailants not only took the life of Isma’il but also made off with approximately 400 cattle.

In response to this distressing development, the personnel of Operation Safe Haven acted promptly, successfully recovering the stolen cattle.

Expressing concern, Abdullahi highlighted the continuous targeting of their group, emphasizing the challenges they face in freely grazing their cattle. He lamented that the Fulani herders are becoming victims of daily attacks.

As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson of Operation Safe Haven, Captain Oya James, has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the incident.

The unfolding events in the Bokkos region underscore the urgency of addressing the security challenges faced by local communities, particularly those involved in herding activities.
