NYSC vows to stop unqualified individuals from tarnishing its reputation

Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), conveyed in Abuja on Thursday during the commencement of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Pre-Mobilisation Workshop that the Corps is committed to adopting innovative solutions to enhance the mobilization process.

Addressing the theme, ‘Unlocking innovative solutions to the challenges of the mobilization process,’ Brigadier General Ahmed highlighted the Corps’ dedication to embracing innovations for a smoother handling of the exercise.

He emphasized the significance of measures such as physical verification in exposing individuals falsely claiming to be graduates, particularly those asserting foreign training.

He shared insights into the Corps’ actions against fraudulent practices, including blacklisting both local and foreign institutions involved in such activities.

Brigadier General Ahmed detailed the Corps’ collaboration with representatives from African countries’ tertiary institutions in November 2023.

The meeting, attended by local stakeholders and regulatory authorities, aimed to address challenges in mobilizing graduates trained in these countries.

Fresh guidelines were unveiled, emphasizing the submission of master lists of Nigerian graduates by the invited institutions.

Expressing the need for support, he urged relevant ministries, agencies, and stakeholders to join efforts in preventing the mobilization of fake graduates.

He stressed the potential threats these individuals pose to the country’s socio-economic well-being, particularly in critical sectors like health and education.

Anticipating positive outcomes from the workshop, Brigadier General Ahmed was optimistic that the event would lead to a more efficient and credible mobilization process.

Minister of Youth, Jamila Ibrahim, assured ongoing collaboration between her ministry and the NYSC to achieve the Scheme’s objectives.

Similarly, Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, highlighted the evolving nature of the NYSC mobilization process.

He emphasized the importance of the Scheme continually equipping itself with the necessary knowledge and skills to stay ahead of the curve.
