Bauchi provides 300 complimentary card stoves to residents

—

The Bauchi State government has recently undertaken a noteworthy initiative to tackle environmental issues by distributing a total of 300 card stoves to the residents of the region.

This strategic move aims to promote sustainable practices and mitigate environmental challenges, thereby fostering a cleaner and healthier living environment for the community members within Bauchi State.

Through this distribution effort, the government is actively engaging in measures to enhance the overall well-being of its residents and contribute to the broader goal of environmental conservation in the region.

This initiative aims to combat issues such as land degradation, deforestation, and climate change.

During the distribution event, the Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Dallami Kawule, emphasized the purpose of discouraging the cutting down of trees in the state.

He urged the recipients to use the stoves responsibly and cautioned against selling them for short-term gains.

Kawule assured the community that the state government remains committed to environmental management and will continue to implement measures to protect the ecosystem.

Alhaji Nuru Adamu Jumba, the district head and Chiroman Bauchi, expressed his support for the initiative, highlighting its positive impact in addressing threats posed by climate change.

Dr. Kabir Ibrahim, the project coordinator of the World Bank-assisted Agro-Climatic Resilience and Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, provided valuable information.

He stated that studies have indicated that a single card stove, if used judiciously for seven years, could save approximately eight fully grown trees.

Furthermore, Ibrahim disclosed ongoing preparations for the construction of at least 3,500 immobile cooking stoves within people’s homes across the state.

This expansion of the initiative demonstrates a commitment to sustainable practices and a proactive approach to mitigating environmental challenges.
