The government of Borno State has taken decisive action against iMMAP, a French non-governmental organization (NGO) operating without the necessary approvals in the state.Â
The Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Prof. Mohammed Tar, disclosed this information in a statement released on Saturday in Maiduguri.
According to the statement, iMMAP’s field office in Borno has been immediately closed to ensure compliance with the law and prevent any further unauthorized activities.
The government’s action is grounded in the regulations of the Borno State Agency for the Coordination of Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Response, specifically Section 9(6)(7)(a)(b), which emphasizes the requirement for NGOs to be duly registered and the potential suspension or cancellation of certificates for non-compliance.
The Borno State Government acknowledges the valuable humanitarian support provided by duly registered and law-abiding NGOs in the state.
However, it maintains a zero-tolerance policy for entities operating outside the established legal framework.
After conducting a thorough investigation and confirming that iMMAP France operated without the necessary registration and authorization, the government has sealed the organization’s office premises in Borno.
This decisive measure is intended to uphold legal standards and prevent any further unauthorized activities.
The statement warns that access to the sealed premises is strictly prohibited, and any attempts to tamper with or circumvent this action will face appropriate legal consequences.
Additionally, security agencies and concerned individuals are urged to remain vigilant to prevent any activities carried out by iMMAP France or its representatives within the state.
The government’s message extends to all civil society organizations operating in the state, urging strict adherence to legal frameworks and governance protocols in the non-governmental and humanitarian services sectors.
The Borno State Government emphasizes its commitment to vigilance over NGOs and international NGOs to safeguard public interest and uphold due processes.
