Police discover plot to set fire to Kano Government House

The Nigeria Police Force has revealed that there are plans to set fire to the Kano Government House by some dishonest individuals due to the ongoing appeal at the Supreme Court regarding the governorship dispute between the APC and the NNPP.

The Kano Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, shared this information during a meeting with media executives in the state.

The Supreme Court is set to hear the appeal on Kano’s governorship, scheduled for today in Abuja.

Gumel urged media professionals to inform the public accurately, emphasizing that there should be no tension in Kano since the matter is at the Supreme Court in Abuja and not within the state.

He mentioned that attempts to disrupt the peaceful coexistence in the state had been thwarted, with arrests made on individuals posing as protesters involved in looting during the governorship election petition trial.

The Police Commissioner highlighted efforts to maintain peace and prevent criminal activities without causing unnecessary tension.

He appealed to politicians to uphold the peace agreement they signed to prevent chaos in the state.

‘’We have arrested criminals under the guise of protesting on political issue that embarked on looting and they have been arraigned before the court.’’

‘’I am using this medium to appeal to the politicians to abide by the peace agreement they signed in the interest of the people so as not to create chaos in the state.’’

Gumel provided positive insights into the rehabilitation of repentant criminals, stating that over 630 Suspects voluntarily surrendered to the command and are undergoing rehabilitation to become productive members of society.

He commended the media for truthful reporting and responsible journalism.

He called for increased collaboration between the Police and media professionals for effective information management.

The Kano Council Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, encouraged the Police to facilitate training for crime and judiciary reporters to enhance their knowledge and reporting, aiming to eliminate misrepresentation.
