2023 COAS conference set to take place in Maiduguri

—

The Nigerian Army has announced its plan to organize the COAS Annual Conference 2023, set to span seven days in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

The official statement, signed by Army spokesperson Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, revealed that the conference, themed “Personnel Motivation for Effective Operational Performance in a Joint Environment,” will kick off on December 10 and conclude on December 16, 2023, at the Major General MSA Aliyu Hall, Command Guest House, Maiduguri.

Emphasizing the significance of the week-long event in the Nigerian Army’s annual calendar, Nwachukwu highlighted its critical role in national security, peace, and stability.

The conference serves as a platform for the Army to assess and comprehensively review its ongoing operational engagements across all theaters of operations within the country’s six geo-political zones throughout the year.

Nwachukwu explained that the conference provides an opportunity for the Army to reflect on its activities, make informed decisions, and address the multifaceted security challenges facing Nigeria.

It will also facilitate face-to-face interactions between the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and General Officers Commanding, Field Commanders, and other senior officers, offering essential guidance to enhance Army operations and activities.

The opening ceremony on December 11, 2023, will be graced by Special Guest of Honour President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The event will include addresses to troops of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, inspection of the ongoing Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Maiduguri, and the laying of the foundation stone of Headquarters 7 Division.

As part of the conference, a lecture titled “Whole of Society Approach and Military Operations in Nigeria” will be presented by Lieutenant General Onyeabo Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), former Chief of Army Staff.

On December 12, there will be the commissioning of Nigerian Army Civil Military Cooperation projects aimed at providing assistance to communities in Borno State.

The subsequent days, from December 13 to 14, 2023, will be dedicated to reviewing decisions taken at the Chief of Army Staff Combined Second and Third Quarters Conference 2023.

Various briefs and operational updates on different activities of the Nigerian Army will be presented and deliberated upon.

The conference will conclude on December 15, with closing remarks by the Chief of Army Staff, bringing this vital annual event to an end.
