It was an evening of gyration in Awka, Anambra State Capital, as popular music star, Honourable Tony Muonagor, also known as ‘Tony One Week’, held an auspicious ceremony to mark his 25th year as gyration master.
Tony One Week, had started his career in music earlier as a member of the Kegite Club International at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko then known as Anam Poly Oko, where he studied Mass Communication up to a Higher National Diploma level.
The gyration genre of the music star, which focused mainly on entertainment songs of the Kegite club, would later lead him to adapt even soccer and Christian songs into gyration tunes.
Some of his hit songs include Ife Osolo gi mebe featuring Flavor, Hold Your Side, Ike, Ebem si bia, Ghem Ghem, Gyration Reboot, One Week Praise, Time, Supporters’ Anthem, Ife Di Nma featuring Tuface among others.
Tony One Week, as many knew him, later moved into politics, where he was elected on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria, CAN, to serve as a member of the State House of Assembly, representing Idemili North State Constituency, for a single term of 4 years.
During his short stint at the State House of Assembly, Tony One Week utilized his fine sense of humor to liven up House Proceedings, providing comic relief to legislators on and off plenary.
He was later appointed Senior Special Assistant to former Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, and served till the end of the governor’s 8-year term in 2022.
At the celebration of his 25 years as gyration master, attendees extolled the capacities of Tony One Week, describing him as a great man whose contributions to the music and entertainment industry are invaluable.
High Chief Azubuike Ekweozor, who chaired the event, explained that the occasion was to appreciate Tony One Week for being on stage for over 25 years, even as he prayed for more divine inspiration for the music star to do more for society.
Chief Ekweozor commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for creating an enabling environment for such an event to be held in the state and prayed he achieves his goals in the governance of the state.
On his part, the 2023 YPP candidate for Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Honourable Uche Okafor, recalled how he was schoolmates with Tony One Week when he started shining in his music career early in life.
“Tony is an easygoing fellow and it has never been a dull moment with him.
“We can only wish him better and greater exploits in the future,” he said.
For the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu, the event was to celebrate a man who has risen to and maintained stardom in the music industry.
Others who spoke at the event, including the Principal Secretary to former Governor Willie Obiano, Sir Willie Nwokoye, Chief of Staff to the former Governor, Chief Uzuegbuna Okagbue, and a former Governorship candidate in Anambra State, Chief John Bosco Onunkwo, all wished the celebrant success in future endeavors in the entertainment industry.
In his response, Tony One Week described his foray into the music and entertainment industry as divinely orchestrated, saying music is a sure way to remain afloat psychologically in the midst of life’s struggles.
According to him, through his gyration genre, many have been lifted and rescued from depression.
“What we are celebrating today, is many years of touching lives through the melodious tunes of my gyration.
“I sincerely appreciate all who have supported me throughout the years, especially my family and I promise them that I will not let them down.
“The future is bright and they should expect better tunes from the gyration master,” the music star boasted.
