Lagos Governor Denies Spending State Resources To Fund Legal Dispute

The Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has refuted allegations that he spent state funds and tax payers money to pursue his legal battle. Earlier, the Labour Party Candidate Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour had on Sunday 19th November 2023, on his x handle, alleged that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration used the state resources to fund his court cases.

Mr Gbadebo stated that the Labour Party took Mr Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat and the APC to Court and not the Lagos state Government.

Reacting to the allegation, the Lagos State Government has described such allegation as a ploy to mislead the public. In a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner of Information, Gbenga Omotoso, he stated that though request for payments were made it was declined by the State Governor when the Attorney General noticed that it was irregular. The statement reads further;

“The allegation was supported by a document that neither carried the logo of the Lagos State Government nor the endorsement of any of its officials. It was simply another ploy to deceive the public about a non-existent payment of N50,000,000 to four lawyers.

“The transaction referenced by Mr. Rhodes-Vivour never took place. There was a payment request, which was not approved by Mr. Governor when the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice drew his attention to it because it was irregular”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will never misappropriate public funds in defiance of his Oath of Office”.

“While it is worthwhile for patriotic individuals to scrutinise the finances of the Lagos State Government, the outcome of such inquiry must always be based on verified facts and nothing but the truth.

Recall that the Appeal Court sitting in Lagos had on 15th November upheld the election of Governor Babajide Sanwolu.
