Vodafone To Create Chips For Open RAN Network

—

Vodafone is teaming up with Intel to make special computer chips for Open RAN networks.

They have also made their first 4G calls using Open RAN tech with Orange in Romania. In Italy, they’re testing Open RAN with Nokia.

Open RAN lets phone companies mix and match equipment, which can be more flexible.

Usually, Ericsson, Nokia, and Huawei rule this market, but Huawei faces restrictions in some countries.

Vodafone and Intel will work together to create these chips, and others can test their ideas on them.

This will help speed up making the chips for Open RAN networks. In Italy, Vodafone and Nokia are trying to prove that Nokia’s Open RAN works just as well as custom-built systems.
