Neymar Jr surpasses Pele to become Brazil’s all time top scorer

—

Neymar Jr has surpassed Pele’s record to become the new Brazil leading all time top scorer following his brace during the 2026 World Cup qualifier tie against Bolivia.

It was Neymar’s first game for Brazil in 6 months and he put two past the goalkeeper of Bolivia in the 61st and 90+3 minutes respectively having missed a spot kick earlier in the game. Being the first game of the World Cup qualifiers, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Colombia all picked three points as Brazil topped the chart with the most goals.

Neymar has now scored 78 goals after 125 caps to surpass Pele’s 77 in 92 games for Brazil – leading the chart as the all-time top scorer. Late Pele who died at 82 due to multiple organ failure, a complication of colon cancer last year still maintained the best goal contribution (51.62%) for Brazil better than Neymar who had 47.74%.

The difference has been that Pele, despite not playing in Europe, had his name sung in every aspect of the world about football. He guided Brazil to three World Cups during his reign in 1958, 1962, and 1970 in Sweden, Chile, and Mexico.

Neymar who recently moved to Al Hilal has only won the FIFA Confederation Cup with Brazil and one time Copa America runner-up.
