Plateau: PermSec Under Pressure to Enter Governorship Race as APC Candidate

—

Some All Progressive Congress (APC) potentates in Plateau State are pressing the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Sunday Garba Biggs, to quit the civil service and join the 2023 governorship race in the state.

If they are not playing nasty politics with him, Biggs is likely to receive their support because the perception of the electorate is that his candidature will be total in sweeping the governorship poll as APC’s standard-bearer.

A party chieftain, Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, who spoke from Jos, the state capital said having consulted at various levels and deliberated on whom to endorse, they eventually came up with Biggs as the chosen one given his clear-cut qualification, personality, ability, and adequate understanding of the state.

Zazzagaa argued that though Biggs is yet to indicate interest in the governorship race, they have seen his outstanding leadership qualities, which explains their reasons for urging him to join the race with the pledge to provide the enabling environment for his success at both the party primaries and the general elections.

“Sunday Biggs is just the man for the 2023 governorship seat because he possesses the right quality and know-how. He is quiet and calculative, a team player, and the man of the people. His loyalty and love for Plateau is evident at all times”, he noted.

Zazzaga describes Biggs as having “the charisma and understanding the dynamics of Plateau like no one else”, adding; “This is not only due to his vast knowledge of the state but because he has served under three governors from the three senatorial zones of the state in different capacities.

“Biggs was the Senior Protocol Officer during Governor Joshua Dariye’s regime, and later Director of Protocol to Governor Jonah Jang, and currently he is a Permanent Secretary in the Plateau State Government House. Undoubtedly, therefore, he understands the administration of the state like the back of his hand”.

Biggs’s academic background also stands him in good stead to run the affairs of the state, noting that with a Master’s degree in Sociology, he understands perfectly the “philosophy of governance, the psychology of the people, and the nitty-gritty of good administration.”

He, therefore, urged the party leaders in the state to throw their weight behind Biggs and further push for him to accept their call to run for the governorship position.

Zazzagaa further stated that having interacted with members of other political parties and people in different quarters, they have equally heard the good things being said about Biggs, adding that those in doubt about his personality should make their individual or independent findings to form their opinion.

For him, Biggs has all it takes to continue with the good works of all past administrations, including the developmental strides being made by Governor Simon Lalong’s government.
