At the just concluded 2021 Renewable Energy Association Nigeria (REAN) Annual General Meeting, held 3rdSeptember 2021, stakeholders in the renewable energy sector in Nigeria lauded the women for their commitment to the energy space.
Lande Abudu, CEO of the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria during her annual report stated that “REAN is forward-facing when it comes to gender inclusion”. Women are now representing50% and above at the association’sBoard of Trustees,Executive Committee, Advisory Board, and the Secretariat.
The Renewable energy sector is not new but an old sector in Nigeria that has not over the years been utilized until recently and women’s involvement and participation in the sector has been less. The energy sector globally is more male-dominated than the broader economy but studies have shown that Nigerian women’s participation in the energy sector is steadily growing.
During the REAN Annual General Meeting, Dr. Segun Adaju, president of the association lauded women in the sector for their commitment and leadership in ensuring development in the renewable energy sector. Commending the works of Habiba Ali, CEO, Sosai Renewable Energies Company, who doubles as the representative ofRenewable Energy Association of Nigeria at the Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Association of Nigeria (REEEA-Alliance).
