Awka – Anambra state government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and better welfare for members of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, serving in Anambra State.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, who made this known while receiving the State Coordinator NYSC, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa in his office in Awka on Wednesday, said the state government has done a lot to guarantee amazing experience for corps members in the state.
According to Okpala, it was under the administration of the incumbent Governor of the State, Chief Willie Obiano that the permanent site of the NYSC, located at Mbaukwu/Umuawulu, was completed.
“This singular project has in a visible way, ensured the safety of corps members while in camp,” he noted.
Okpala also revealed that the Obiano administration have sustained a tradition of rewarding corps members who distinguish themselves in their performances at their places of primary assignment, noting that many have been absorbed into the state civil service for outstanding performance.
He urged the State NYSC coordinator to always avail the ministry with timely information on the welfare needs of corps members especially as new batch of Corps members were being received and inducted into the service in orientation camps across the federation.
The Health Commissioner commended the scheme for its contributions in different health centres in the rural communities in the state, especially in the provision of mid-level manpower and professional for the various health facilities across the state.
“In Anambra, we see the NYSC as a viable partner and that’s why the governor has invested so much in the service. Having himself, been an NYSC Award Winner as a corps member, just know that you cannot expect anything less from Governor Obiano,” the Commissioner noted.
Earlier, the Coordinator had informed the Commissioner that she was in his office to express the management appreciation to his ministry and the state government for the numerous assistance received.
She also solicited for continued support and partnership with the state, especially as the 2021 batch ‘B’ stream 2 prospective corps members were being received for the mandatory three weeks orientation course.
Baderinwa further assured the Commissioner that total compliance to COVID 19 Protocols would be adhered to on camp.
