Awka – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Anambra State Command on Monday, debunked rumors that its personnel were killed and an operational vehicle burnt today at Umueri in Anambra East Council Area of the state.
The response followed an online video massively circulated on Monday, showing an attack on an NSCDC formation in Anambra.
The online video showed masked gunmen shoot two personnel of the NSCDC, at a checkpoint at Umueri, after which they set a truck donated to the command by the State Government on fire.
Most circulators of the video had on the online platforms, alleged that the security men were attacked for not heeding this Monday’s sit-at-home order of the IPOB.
When TNC correspondent contacted the spokesperson of the NSCDC in Anambra, Deputy Superintendent of Corps, DSC Edwin Okadigbo, he maintained that no such incident took place anywhere in Anambra, saying all their men and vehicles are intact.
DSC Okadigbo described the video in circulation, as the handiwork of crises merchants who want to create panic in the state.
“The attention of our Command has been drawn to a video circulation on social media, insinuating that Civil Defence officers and vehicle were attacked on Monday 30th of August 2021 at Nenyi Umueri in Anambra East LGA.
“We wish to state that there is no iota of truth in the video in circulation, as all NSCDC facilities in Anambra State are safe and calm.
“In addition, all operational vehicles in the State deployed for assignment, are without any untoward incident today.
“This is purely the handiwork of crises merchants and mischief makers who want to create panic and fear in the minds of Anambrarians and residents alike.
“The Command with other sister security agencies are working in synergy to ensure that Security situation in Anambra State is intact,” he said.
The Anambra NSCDC Public Relations Officer appealed to Anambrarians to always verify all information before sharing them on social media to avoid misleading the public.
“While appreciating the collaboration and support of the masses to the activities of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps in the state, we wish to appeal for confirmation of every information, before going to social media to avoid misleading the public,” he appealed.
Okadigbo gave the assurances of the command to continue its business of protecting the lives of the people, as well as the critical national infrastructure in the state.
