A seven-month pregnant housewife, Safiya Ismail, has asked an Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, to dissolve her marriage to Suleiman Khalid over alleged assault and neglect.
Ismail, a mother of one, told the court that she married Khalid under Islamic law but accused him of abandoning his family and failing in his responsibilities as a husband and father.

“My husband has abandoned his family and is no longer responsible. He beats me and threatens to harm me,” she told the court.
She also alleged that Khalid had failed to fulfill his marital and parental duties.
The petitioner further asked the court to order her husband to provide financial support for her upkeep until she gives birth. Responding to the allegations, Khalid denied the claims.
