5,000 less Privileged, Widows and Widowers Get food items, Free Medicare as Mrs Soludo marks 54th Birthday

—

Over 5,000 less privileged persons were on Wednesday, handed food items and other support materials by the wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, as part of activities marking her 54th Birth Anniversary.

At the ceremony held at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, the less privileged persons, including the elderly, the poor and Persons with Disabilities, received bags of rice, beans, gallons of oil, and wheelchairs.

Also at the event, widows and widowers benefitted from free medical check-ups, courtesy of the governor’s wife.

Mrs Soludo also distributed one thousand packs of hybrid seeds to support her ongoing free seeds programme and garden campaign.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs Soludo explained that the greatest privilege of being alive is to ensure that such existence is fulfilled through deeds that leave lasting impacts on humanity.

Expressing satisfaction and appreciation to God for her life at 54, the governor’s wife said each chapter of her life, has been a reflection of God’s immense grace, promising to continue to use her existence to bring greater social change.

Preaching on the need for people to show love to the needy and less privileged around them, Mrs Soludo maintained that such is the only way to express gratitude to God for a good life and lessen the burden of others.

“The most significant message of my birthday celebration is to teach people the essence of love and friendship.

“A society without love is at war with itself.

“Learn to show love to people around you. If we start being conscious of the plights of people around us and attending to them, the world will be a better place,” she said

The Anambra first lady reiterated her stance on the need for families to own household gardens and maintained that the only way to beat the current food crises and rising killer diseases is to embrace agriculture in the most organic practice.

“Food items are exorbitant today because many people have abandoned farming.

“This is what I preach in my initiative for us to go back to healthy eating because 90 percent of the sicknesses suffered by people are as a result of bad food.

“People should also develop the habit of exercising regularly,” she said

In their separate goodwill messages, the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South, Mrs Amaka Obi, the Executive Chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, among others, spoke about how the governor’s wife has used her life of kindness, humility and selflessness to change the world around her, and extended their prayers for God’s blessings and grace.
