According to reports no fewer than 47 persons were buried alive when a landslide struck a remote and mountainous part of southwestern China early hours of Tuesday 23 January 2024.

 Local authorities say, two people have been confirmed dead after the pre-dawn landslide fell upon Zhenxiong County, Yunnan province.Â
Reports from the State broadcaster CCTV revealed that around 18 households were completely buried by a torrent of falling earth and that more than 200 people were urgently rescued from the area.

 It was gathered that, authorities have initiated an emergency response involving 200 rescue workers as well as dozens of fire engines and other equipment.

However, rescue efforts could be stalled by the freezing and snowy weather conditions.Â

 Reports say, Chinese President Xi Jinping demanded that rescue forces are organized quickly… and efforts made to reduce casualties as far as possible.

 Xi who stated that it was ‘necessary to properly handle the work of comforting the families of the deceased and resettling affected people’ also urged ‘all-out’ for rescued efforts.
