Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 31 kidnapped victims, killed five terrorists, and destroyed several terrorist hideouts in a series of coordinated operations across Zamfara and Katsina states.
This is contained in s statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
According to the statement, the most significant breakthrough came in Zamfara State, where troops freed 31 abductees along the Bagega–Kawaye axis in Anka Local Government Area following a precision airstrike by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and a subsequent ground assault on terrorist enclaves west of the Bagega Forest.
The victims, who had spent weeks in captivity, were identified as residents of Maga, Gummi, Bukuyyum and Anka LGAs in Zamfara State, as well as Zuru and Wasagu LGAs in neighbouring Kebbi State.
The statement noted that the victims have received medical attention and are set to be reunited with their families.
In another operation around the Maradun and Gidan Dan Jaja axis of Zamfara, troops engaged terrorists in a fierce gun battle, killing two of them and destroying their camps. Several locally fabricated rifles and four motorcycles used by the criminals were recovered during the operation.
Meanwhile, in Katsina State, troops intercepted a group of terrorists along the Ruwan Godiya axis and Sayaya Road in Matazu Local Government Area while they were reportedly moving to carry out an attack.
The ensuing firefight led to the elimination of three terrorists, while troops recovered motorcycles and ammunition from the scene. One of the slain terrorists was later identified as a foot soldier of notorious terrorist kingpin, Muhammad Fulani.
The Nigerian Army said the successful operations reflect the growing pressure being mounted on terrorist networks across the North-West and reaffirmed Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements and restoring lasting peace in the region.
