27 Plateau roads targeted for completion before 2023

—

Gov. Simon Lalong has disclosed that 27 uncompleted roads will be completed before the end of his administration in 2023.

According to the governor, agriculture, mining and tourism were areas the state had a comparative advantage and that were it not for the COVID-19, the state would have convened its first economic summit.

While speaking on a live program on Silverbird Rythm FM on Tuesday, Lalong stated that the inauguration of a committee on community policing by the state recently was a fall out of a teleconference meeting he had with President Buhari on the deteriorating security situation in the north and Plateau State in particular.

According to him, the President had formed a special air squad with presence in all northern states to deal with banditry and kidnapping.

On the Almajiri issue, he regretted the way it was politicised and that the northern governors were not deterred by a resolution by the House of Representatives directing the governors to stop transferring Almajiris to their states of origin.

Lalong who is the Chairman Northern Governors Forum (NGF), said a conference on the Almajiri system was convened by the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari and the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Saad II and that the northern governours had decided to meet in Kaduna to implement the communique of the conference.

On the lax enforcement of inter-local government movement in the state, Lalong said civil servants on grade levels 10 to 14, who hitherto were asked to work from home, will now go to the field to enforce the ban on movement.
