25 Escape Death In Anambra Multiple Road Traffic Crash

No less than 8 persons on Thursday sustained varying degrees of injury while seventeen others came out unhurt in a multiple motor accident in Nteje, along Onitsha-Awka expressway, Anambra State.

An eye witness said the crash which occurred at Abba junction around 8.35 am, involved three vehicles- a green colour tanker with Enugu registration number ENU 518 YS, a white bus with Anambra registration number BUU 72 Z and another red and white bus belonging to Star Sunny motors, with Registration number, AGU 289 ZL.

The source said the truck driver while overtaking wrongfully, rammed into the oncoming vehicles on a single carriageway and crashed, leaving many occupants injured.

Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi confirmed that the crash was due to wrongful overtaking.

He wished the injured victims quick recovery, urging motorists to give full concentration to driving and also ensure roads were clear before overtaking.

“The crash was between three vehicles and the probable cause of the serious crash was attributed to wrongful overtaking.

“25 people were involved in the crash, comprising 20 male adults and 5 female adults.

“8 persons comprising 6 male adults and 2 female adults were injured, while 17 came out unhurt.

“The injured victims were taken to an undisclosed hospital by good Samaritans before the arrival of FRSC rescue team.

“FRSC personnel immediately deployed to the scene, controlling traffic caused by the obstruction of the RTC vehicles.

“Effort is being made to ensure obstruction caused is cleared,” he said.
