24-Year-Old Bags Two Weeks in Jail for Selling Colleague’s Power Bank for N7,000

A Life Camp Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Friday sentenced a 24-year-old man, Adam Abdulsalam, to two weeks’ imprisonment for stealing a colleague’s portable power bank and selling it for N7,000.

Abdulsalam, who resides in Zone 7, Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, was convicted after pleading guilty to the charge.

Presiding Magistrate Hauwa Aboki sentenced the defendant to two weeks in a correctional center, with an option of a N20,000 fine.

The magistrate said the convict’s guilty plea spared the court the time and burden of a prolonged trial.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Bankole Babatunde, who appeared for Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the offense was committed on June 29.

According to the prosecution, the complainant, Miss Comfort Oyechi, reported the incident at the Life Camp Police Station, stating that Abdulsalam, her colleague at the same company, borrowed her itel portable power bank to charge his phone but failed to return it.

Police investigations revealed that the defendant later sold the device for N7,000.

Babatunde told the court that Abdulsalam confessed to the offense during interrogation.

He added that the offense contravenes Sections 287 and 312 of the Penal Code.
