2027: Wike’s Position Could Threaten Tinubu’s Re-election – APC Chieftain

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Farouk Aliyu, has warned that the political activities of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, could pose a danger to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Aliyu made the comment amid the escalating rift between Wike and APC governors over the minister’s proposed “Rainbow Coalition” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The controversy intensified after the Progressive Governors Forum, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, rejected political arrangements that could undermine the APC or create divided loyalty among its members. The governors maintained that their campaign efforts would remain focused on APC candidates at all levels.

Wike, however, dismissed the governors’ position, insisting that he never approached them to form an alliance. He said his commitment was to support Tinubu’s re-election while retaining the right to support candidates of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the governorship and legislative levels.

The FCT minister also described the APC governors as “smart but politically lazy,” arguing that supporting Tinubu for president does not automatically translate into supporting APC candidates in other elections. He further said President Tinubu was aware of his political activities and the proposed coalition.

Reacting to the growing political tension in an interview on Channels Television monitored by The News Chronicle, Aliyu criticised Wike’s posture, describing the minister as arrogant and warning that political power and influence are transient.

He argued that Wike’s decision to mobilise support for Tinubu while backing candidates outside the APC could create complications for the ruling party’s electoral strategy ahead of 2027.

According to Aliyu, Wike’s position could, in some respects, work against the president’s re-election by creating divisions between Tinubu’s supporters and the APC structures expected to drive the party’s campaign at the state and grassroots levels.
