2027: Wike Reveals Who Will Be Rivers’ Next Governor

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, will succeed Governor Siminalayi Fubara in 2027.

Wike, a former governor of the state, made the declaration on Tuesday at a reception organised in his honour by Ogbakor Ikwerre, the socio-cultural organisation of the Ikwerre ethnic nationality, at Obiri-Ehie.

Speaking at the event, Wike acknowledged the presence of dignitaries and introduced Chinda, a member of the House of Representatives, as the “former Minority Leader in the House of Representatives and, by the grace of God, the next governor of Rivers State.”

Chinda is expected to take over from Fubara, who has indicated that he will not seek a second term in office.

The lawmaker has been a long-standing political ally of Wike and has emerged as a prominent figure in the former governor’s political camp amid recent realignments ahead of the 2027 election.

Wike’s endorsement further reinforces Chinda’s position as a leading contender for the Rivers State governorship seat in the forthcoming election.
