A Nigerian military officer has stirred widespread reactions on social media after speaking about voting decisions and leadership choices ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging citizens to be deliberate in electing leaders.
In a viral video making rounds online obtained by The News Chronicle, the officer explained that members of the military do not participate in voting but are obligated to carry out orders from elected civilian authorities.
He stressed that the quality of leadership chosen by citizens affects everyone, including military personnel, who must obey lawful instructions issued by those elected into power.
The officer advised Nigerians to prioritize competence, integrity, and a sincere commitment to public service when choosing leaders, rather than focusing on wealth, popularity, or public image.
According to him, voters should elect leaders who value justice and humanity over personal gain, emphasizing that such decisions will ultimately determine the country’s future direction.
In his words, he said: “I no say make una no vote for who you like, but I abeg, vote for the right person. We [the military] do not vote, but anybody wey una vote, na him go give us order wey we go follow. Vote for a leader wey no dey in love of money, but dey love justice and humanity.”
The video has since generated conversations online, with many Nigerians sharing different opinions on the officer’s remarks regarding leadership and governance ahead of the next general elections.
