2027: Seriake Dickson Explains Why He’s Neither Obidient Nor Kwankwasiyya

Senator Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has clarified that he is neither a member of the Obidient Movement nor the Kwankwasiyya Movement, insisting that his political allegiance remains with the NDC.

Dickson made the clarification during an interview on Arise News monitored by The News Chronicle while discussing the political identities of supporters associated with NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

“I’m not a member of Kwankwasiyya, and I’m not a member of Obidient. I’m NDC,” Dickson said.

The former Bayelsa State governor explained that although Obi and Kwankwaso have established support bases associated with the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements respectively, both politicians are contesting the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the NDC.

He said his association with the two political figures should therefore not be interpreted as membership of either support movement.

“These candidates, Peter Obi and Kwankwaso, and other candidates, none of them are running as independents; they are running on the NDC,” Dickson said.

His comments come amid growing attention to the relationship between the NDC and the influential support bases of Obi and Kwankwaso as the opposition party positions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dickson has been a key figure in the formation and consolidation of the NDC, while Obi and Kwankwaso joined the party earlier this year after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
