2027: PRP Opens Door to ADC Amid Opposition Realignment, Signals Readiness to Back Southern Presidential Flagbearer

National Chairman of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, says the party is positioning itself as a credible alternative platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in an interview on Arise News, monitored by The News Chronicle, the former APC chieftain said the PRP is prepared to accommodate the structure of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) should the party fail to secure legal legitimacy after its ongoing court tussle.

He also criticised the state of Nigeria’s electoral system, questioning the integrity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and contrasting it with what he described as a more credible past under the National Electoral Commission (NEC).

“Even when it was called NEC, it carried a level of integrity that is no longer visible today,” he said, blaming the country’s challenges on poor leadership.

“Nigeria has no business being in the level of hardship it is in today, but bad leadership is responsible for our situation,” he added.

On potential presidential contenders within the opposition, Baba-Ahmed said while there are “good people” across opposition ranks, any candidate aligned against the APC already represents a stronger alternative.

He further disclosed that the PRP is open to presenting a presidential candidate from southern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections
