2027: PDP Leaders Hold Closed-Door Meeting With Jonathan in Abuja

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former Minister of Special Duties, Taminu Turaki, on Friday met with former President Goodluck Jonathan as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.

The development comes after the Turaki-led faction earlier announced Jonathan, in absentia, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Jonathan was not present at the event where the faction formally ratified his nomination.

Despite the endorsement, the former president has yet to publicly declare whether he intends to contest the 2027 presidential election.

On May 7, Jonathan said he would consult widely before making a final decision on whether to seek the presidency again. His remarks came after a group of supporters staged a protest at his Abuja office, urging him to join the race.

Since then, the former president has remained silent on the matter and has not addressed the media regarding his political plans.

As of the time of filing this report, details of Friday’s meeting between the Turaki-led PDP faction and Jonathan had not been made public.
