Vice-President Kashim Shettima has said that only a reckless person would attempt to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Shettima made the remark on Friday during the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
According to the vice-president, President Tinubu’s political experience and leadership record make him a formidable force ahead of the next election.
“Only a fool bent on political suicide or an impostor would dare to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. However, we are in a democracy, and everyone has the right to contest,” Shettima said.
He added that elections are not won through online noise or nostalgia, stressing that social media popularity alone cannot secure victory.
“Elections are not won on Facebook or Twitter. They are won through strong coalitions, credibility, and conviction,” he stated.
Shettima described the 2027 election as a responsibility rather than a gamble, expressing confidence that the APC would retain power.
“With the experience of our president as our shield and lessons from the past as our guide, I believe that 2027 is a responsibility, and by God’s grace, we will succeed,” he said.
Despite his confidence, the vice-president warned the APC against complacency, reminding party leaders that success must be carefully sustained.
“Rome was not destroyed by external enemies but by the complacency of its own people. It is easier to achieve success than to maintain it,” Shettima cautioned.
He urged the party to continue strengthening its dominance nationwide, highlighting the APC’s growing influence across the six geopolitical zones, especially in states recently gained through defections and new political alliances.
