Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, has dismissed the political relevance of the alliance between former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, insisting that such a pairing would struggle to gain acceptance in Kano.
In an interview with AriseNews monitored by The News Chronicle, Bature also maintained that Kwankwaso’s recent political decisions amount to inconsistency and shifting alignments.
On the emerging Obi/Kwankwaso political alignment, the media aide said the development is surprising and inconsistent with Kwankwaso’s past public positions.
“When you say Obi in Kano, it’s actually strange news. Many people are surprised that the same Kwankwaso who said that he has a PhD. and Obi has just an undergraduate degree, the same Kwankwaso who said he is more politically experienced and otherwise than Obi, the same Kwankwaso who has seen Obi as just a Biafra agent is now craving to be a vice president to Obi.
“So, it’s a surprise and Kano cannot accept this partnership because it’s not really the Kwankwaso we know. Because we know Kwankwaso as a straightforward person who would really want to contribute to the development of the country.
This partnership is just temporary because I really think Obi/Kwankwaso partnership can work. This is because I know the two of them have very different opinions and political view”.
He said Kwankwaso is probably plagued by age for taking the decision to work with Peter Obi .
On broader national alignments, Bature also alleged behind-the-scenes political positioning ahead of 2027.
“There are those who are working for Tinubu openly, and there are also those working for him behind the scene. Whatever Kwankwaso is doing is going to work for Tinubu in 2027.
“Kwankwaso worked for the APC in 2023. I believe that Kwankwaso is also working for Tinubu in 2027 behind the scene.”
Sanusi who said Kwankwaso has lost his support base in Kano and cannot garnered up to 25% votes in kano come 2027.
He continued; ” Kano is a very conservative state, and you can not take that thinking from a typical kano person. Obi can never be accepted in Kano and places like Jigawa and co so that ticket cannot fly in Kano.
“Maybe Kwankwaso was given the assignment to reduce the votes of the opposition for Tinubu secure victory. 1n 2027, Obi/Kwankwaso ticket cannot secure up to a million votes in kano and time is coming and we would see”.
