Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) while rejecting the emergence of former Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Bauchi by his media aide, Alkasim Abdulkadir, Tuggar distanced himself from reports claiming that his supporters had accepted the outcome of the APC governorship primary and pledged allegiance to Abubakar.
Abdulkadir described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that they did not reflect the position of the Tuggar campaign organisation.
“Our attention has been drawn to reports claiming that supporters of Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar accepted the outcome of the APC governorship primary in Bauchi State and shifted their allegiance.
“This claim is false and does not represent the position of the Tuggar campaign organisation,” the statement read.
He noted that the individuals who addressed the media had openly admitted they were not speaking on Tuggar’s behalf and lacked the authority to make pronouncements in his name.
“Their views are personal and cannot be presented as those of the ambassador or his supporters,” Abdulkadir said.

The campaign organisation also rejected the process that produced Abubakar, arguing that the so-called consensus was not preceded by broad consultations or the voluntary agreement of all governorship aspirants and key stakeholders.
According to the statement, the process failed to meet the principles of internal party democracy and could not be regarded as a legitimate consensus.
Despite the disagreement, Abdulkadir stressed that Tuggar remained committed to the APC, its constitution and the rule of law.
He urged party members and supporters to disregard the reports of any endorsement, maintaining that they did not represent Tuggar’s official position.
