The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, on Tuesday, received leaders of the Southeast zonal chapter of the City Boy Movement at the Lion Building, Government House, Enugu.
The visit formed part of the group’s ongoing consultations with governors across the Southeast region, towards furthering its mandate of securing massive votes for the reelection of President Bola Tinubu..
The delegation was led by the Southeast Coordinator of the movement, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu, who briefed the governor on the objectives and activities of the group in the region.
Iyiegbu described the City Boy Movement as a political support group mobilising grassroots backing for the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He noted that the movement cuts across party lines, attracting members from different political parties as well as young professionals and business leaders.
He also informed the governor of the composition of the Enugu State leadership of the movement.
According to him, Prince Emeka Mamah serves as the State Coordinator, while Dr. Charles Mbah is the State Patron.
He added that several other prominent indigenes of Enugu hold leadership roles within the organisation, which has structures at the local government, ward and polling unit levels.
Welcoming the delegation, Governor Mbah said the people of Enugu State were supporting President Tinubu’s re-election and pledged his continued backing for the activities of the movement in the state.
The governor also stressed the need for the Southeast to adopt a more strategic approach to national politics in order to regain influence at the centre.
He lamented that the region had become politically fragmented and disconnected from the centre in recent years, warning that sentimental politics would not advance the interests of the Igbo people.
Mbah commended President Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as bold and necessary.
He cited the ongoing stabilisation of the foreign exchange market, the removal of fuel subsidy, and rising external reserves as some of the gains recorded under the administration.
The Enugu State executive and local government coordinators of the City Boy Movement were also inaugurated the same day at a massively attended rally in Enugu.
