2027: APM Governorship Candidate Urges Atiku, Obi to Step Down for Makinde

Lagos State governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Prince Laja Adeoye, has called on opposition leaders to rally behind Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.

Adeoye made the appeal on Wednesday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), urging the presidential candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and other opposition figures to adopt Makinde as a consensus candidate to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He argued that Makinde remains the most qualified among the opposition’s presidential hopefuls, citing his performance in office, transparency, inclusive leadership and youth-oriented governance.

According to Adeoye, ongoing discussions among opposition parties on presenting a single presidential candidate must succeed if they hope to defeat the APC in 2027.

“There was a summit in Ibadan in April where we declared that there should be a single candidate for 2027. The conversation has been renewed, and I believe it is ongoing.

“Everybody must set aside ego and personal interest to rescue Nigeria. Multiple opposition candidates could divide votes and aid the ruling party’s re-election.

“What does it profit anybody if everyone insists on being on the ballot, loses the election and allows an unpopular government to return? I believe wisdom will prevail over ego ahead of the 2027 election,” he said.

Adeoye specifically appealed to Atiku, Obi and other opposition leaders to throw their weight behind Makinde, describing him as a proven performer from the South-West.

“I call on them to step down for Seyi Makinde so that he can represent the aspirations of Nigerians in the 2027 election.

“I believe he possesses the leadership qualities needed to transform Nigeria,” he said.

“Seyi Makinde stands out among all the candidates across political parties as a top performer. He has this youthful energy that connects and resonates with young Nigerian people.

Expressing confidence in Makinde’s prospects, he said the Oyo governor has what it takes to win the 2027 presidential election if the opposition unites behind him.
