Dr Erico Ameh, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Kogi East Senatorial District in the 2027 elections, has urged voters to scrutinise campaign promises and reject unrealistic pledges ahead of the polls.
Ameh made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday, on the sidelines of a ceremony marking his emergence as National Adviser to the Senior Special Assistants Forum of the North-Central States.
He urged voters to assess campaign promises against the achievements of governments before making their choices.
Ameh specifically cautioned voters against promises to reverse government policies without clear alternatives or evidence of how such changes would improve their living conditions.
He cited calls for the return of fuel subsidy, arguing that the policy had not delivered sufficient benefits to Nigerians in the past.
“Some candidates have come up with a lot of promises, which cannot work, some which we have tried in Nigeria before and is not working for us.
“Somebody came up to promise us that he is going to bring back fuel subsidy; something we have tried and did not work for us,” he said.
Ameh said the administration of President Bola Tinubu had redirected resources following the removal of fuel subsidy, adding that ongoing projects and increased allocations to state governments were visible across the country.
“We can see a lot of ongoing projects everywhere in Nigeria and you see our governors are paying salaries, they are doing a lot of projects in their states,” he said.
The APC candidate urged voters to focus on tangible development projects and policies capable of improving infrastructure, the economy and living conditions.
He also pledged to provide quality representation and attract infrastructure development to Kogi East if elected to the Senate in 2027.
Earlier, the President of the forum, Prince Ezikiel Oruma, described the body as a strategic link between government and the people.

Oruma said the forum provides policy support, drives grassroots mobilisation and works to ensure that government policies and programmes translate into tangible benefits for citizens across the North-Central zone.
“Beyond our states, we have taken on a strategic responsibility as a forum to ensure the continuity of the administration of President Tinubu beyond 2027.
“This is not about politics alone. It is about patriotism and continuity of good governance,” he said.
Oruma also defended the removal of fuel subsidy, saying it had freed resources for public use and that increased funds going to state governments had supported development projects.
He reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to mobilising support for President Tinubu and APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
