2023 AFCON: Super Eagles suffer defeat in second pre-AFCON friendly

Nigeria continued its preparation for the 2023 African Cup of Nations following two friendly games played against a local team in Abu Dhabi yesterday and Guinea today.

Super Eagles ransacked the Abu Dhabi-based team during their 12-0 victory yesterday, a resplendent start towards the tournament which kicks off in less than a week. Today, the Nigerian team was beaten 0-2 by Guinea at the Bani Yas Stadium, Abu Dhabi.

It took the Guinean side 14 minutes to take the lead, 5 minutes later Umar Sadiq was brought down in the penalty yard of Guinea and a penalty was awarded, unfortunately for Nigeria, the Guinea goalkeeper denied Simon Moses’ spot Kick—ending the game in 0-1 at the first half.

Guinea extended the lead to 2-0 in the 64th minute of the second half. Running out of time, Jose Peseiro, in the 73rd minute Omeruo made way for Bassey, Onyedika out, Iwobi in; Awaziem out; and Onyeka in. 10 minutes later, Alhassan was replaced with Aribo, while Musa came in for Chukwueze while Lookman took the place of Simon.
