2023 AFCON: It will be an exciting challenge against Nigeria—Didier Drogba

Former Ivory Coast forward Didier Drogba who is also an ambassador of the 2023 AFCON has described group A as an exciting challenge after his country was drawn along three times African Champions Nigeria.

Host Ivory Coast were drawn in group A with Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau following Thursday’s final draw in Abidjan.

Drogba, who unfortunately didn’t win the AFCON but leads as Côte d’Ivoire’s all-time scorer, asserted that playing the Super Eagles promises to be a thrilling early test for the tournament hosts next January.

“It is a very difficult group. Nigeria is, of course, one of the favourites and to have them in our group, it is going to be an exciting challenge,” said Drogba.

“But we are up for it. This is the beauty of a competition like AFCON, so we are ready to take on the challenge and let the best teams of this group and all the groups qualify.”

Ivory Coast have been fortunate to win the prestigious trophy twice, below Nigeria who has won it three times.
