2022 budget: Moro makes case for Benue South on federal roads

The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Patrick Abba Moro, has decried the bad state of federal roads in Benue South and lamented the poor implementation of the nation’s budget.

Senator Moro made this submission on the floor of the Senate while contributing to the debate on the 2022 budget recently presented to the joint session of the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to his media assistant, James Amedu, the lawmaker said it was high time the country changed its strategy towards budget implementation, noting that the development had hindered the rehabilitation of federal roads in his Senatorial District, which have been begging for federal government intervention for years.

His words, “Looking at the figures that have been churned out, like the previous years, implementation will still be the major problem.

“We have a 7km internal road in Otukpo that has been begging for reconstruction but has been in the budget year in year out.

“There is also the Makurdi-Aliade-Otukpo road that is literally a death trap. For two decades now, the Otukpo-Obi-Oju road that links Crossriver State has been a perennial cry of our people, for something to be done on it, yet nothing has been done.

“I think that what we need to do here is to change our strategy towards budget implementation. We must change our implementation strategy so that Nigerians can benefit from this annual ritual called budget. We cannot continue to do the same thing year in, year out and not expect the same result.”

Air Force Destroys Boko Haram Logistics Hub, Neutralises Fighters in Precision Strike in Borno

The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI has intensified its offensive against terrorist groups in Nigeria's North-East, destroying a major terrorist enclave and logistics hub during a precision airstrike in Borno State. According to Intelligence sources the operation was carried out at about 2:40 p.m. on Friday, July 10, targeting Yaganari, a notorious terrorist stronghold within the Gezuwa general area. According to the sources, the location had recently become a regrouping point where insurgents were consolidating fighters and logistics for planned attacks. The strike followed credible intelligence indicating heightened terrorist activities in the area. Military intelligence reportedly conducted persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions to verify the information before authorising the engagement. A source said surveillance assets confirmed the presence of multiple terrorist structures, logistics facilities and visible movement of insurgents within the target area. Following confirmation, Air Component aircraft carried out a series of precision strikes, accurately engaging the designated targets in successive attack runs. The operation reportedly destroyed the identified terrorist structures, obliterated logistics hubs and neutralised several insurgents operating within the enclave. Military sources described the mission as a significant blow to terrorist operations in the North-East, noting that the destruction of the logistics infrastructure would further weaken the insurgents' ability to coordinate attacks and sustain their activities. The operation underscores the military's continued reliance on intelligence-driven precision airstrikes to dismantle terrorist command centres, safe havens and supply networks, while supporting ongoing ground operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI. Security sources added that a battle damage assessment is ongoing to determine the full extent of the impact of the strike, while intensified aerial surveillance has been deployed over the area to prevent surviving terrorists from regrouping.
