Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has debunked claims that he is running for Vice Presidency in a joint ticket with Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
This response became necessary following the posters being displayed, portraying Gen. Buhari and Governor Amaechi as Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates respectively.
The Governor who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Mr. Tony Okorocha, fingered a serving Minister in President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet as the hand behind the printing of the said posters.
Amaechi who accused the Minister of blackmailing him in order to gain favour from the President, stated that he is fully aware of the ban on political activities. The Governor added that he had not at anytime indicated interest in running for any political position in 2015.
“What the Minister is trying to do, is to deceive undiscerning minds in Rivers State and Nigeria so as to gain undue attention and continue to stay on his post when he is nothing more than a mischief-maker, and an expert in frivolity.
“The Governor has not told anyone that he is contesting any elective position come 2015 and I don’t know why people would be printing his posters without his permission just because they want to tarnish his image and be seen to be working,” he said.
