200 Anambra Youths to Undergo ECOWAS-Backed Fish Farming Training

About 200 youths in Anambra State are set to be trained under the second phase of the ECOWAS Fish Production and Aquaculture Partnership, using the TAENPROWIZ Fish Production Business System and Technology.

The initiative, anchored by the Fisheries and Aquaculture Business Development Agency (FABDA), in collaboration with the ECOWAS Commission and the West Africa Secretariat for Ecological and Organic Agriculture (WASEOA), aims to equip young people with professional skills in modern fish farming.

Training will be conducted at key centers including Adazi-Nnukwu Fish Production Village and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam.

FABDA’s Managing Director and Training Coordinator, Emeka Iloghalu, said the program aligns with Anambra State’s youth development goals and seeks to boost local table fish production to 51,000 metric tons annually.

“This second phase builds on the success of the first and is designed to produce youth entrepreneurs and professionals ready to drive Nigeria’s fish economy,” Iloghalu said.

Leaders of youth bodies including the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra Town Unions (ASATU), and APGA Youth Wing pledged support for the program and committed to mobilizing participants.

The TAENPROWIZ model also introduces eco-friendly aquaculture by integrating crop farming with nutrient-rich fish wastewater advancing both food security and environmental sustainability.

The training is open to youths aged 18–35 as of June 4, 2025, interested in launching careers or businesses in the fisheries value chain.
