At least 18 Nigerien gendarmes have reportedly been killed after terrorists attacked a gendarmerie position in Tessa, Dosso Region, near the Niger-Nigeria border.
The attack reportedly occurred on Friday, August 21, with the assailants overrunning and vandalising the security post before fleeing the area.
Three security personnel were reportedly rescued following the attack, while two money-transfer agencies in the area were also vandalised by the attackers.
No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the incident, while Nigerien authorities have yet to issue an official statement confirming the attack or the reported casualties.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the security situation in areas close to the Niger-Nigeria border, which have faced repeated attacks by armed groups in recent years.
