15 Rescued, Others Feared Trapped as Lagos Building Collapses Overnight

Panic gripped residents of Oyingbo, Lagos, in the early hours of Monday after a two-storey building at 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop, collapsed, trapping several occupants beneath the rubble.

 

Accordinh to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, 15 persons including  seven men, four women, and four children have so far been pulled out alive with varying degrees of injuries and taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta, and the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island.

 

The agency’s Director, Margaret Adeseye, the Sari-Iganmu Fire Station team responded swiftly to a distress call received around 12:20 a.m. “The building had earlier been marked as distressed before it eventually gave way on the occupants,” she stated.

 

As of press time, rescue operations were ongoing, with emergency responders combing through the debris in search of more survivors.
